FAQ

Have a question? You may find it here. If you don't, feel free to email me!

Are you excited about moving?

Yes!

I get this question all the time. I'm very excited to move to Uganda. I went with my parents when we were bringing JoAn home. During that trip, we met some great people that I'm looking forward to seeing on a daily basis.

Won't you miss your friends and family?

Yes, of course

I'll definitely miss everyone in America. I'm sure that's going to be one of the hardest parts about moving because I know so many awesome people here. I'd love to talk to you while in Uganda, so make sure to email or text me! ;)

Is it dangerous in Africa?

Not especially, and not where we are

It is true that some parts of Africa are dangerous, but we'll be far away from those places. Remember, Africa is a large continent. If you think about it, there are many places in America that are just as dangerous.

Will you go to a Ugandan school?

No, my siblings and I will be homeschooled

We have already started homeschool, and it is going really well! Our mom will be helping us with school. She was a teacher at Evansville Christian School, so she has lots of experience. Our education will be just as good as it would be in America.

Are there good doctors near you?

Yes, but not as many as in the U.S.

We will be near a clinic. While there aren't quite as many doctors there as there are in the U.S., the ones in Uganda are skilled missionary friends whom we trust and live fairly close to us. If there is an emergency, we will fly to Kampala (Uganda's capital) or Kenya.

What will your family be doing?

We will be helping the community

Our family will be working with Carol Adams and her organization, Y.E.S. They'll be opening a vocational center when we arrive, and already have a children's home that's been running for a long time. Our family will travel to the different villages to find kids with the potential to be sponsored. We will write a bio for them and make sure they have enough food, water, medicine, etc. Once a month, we'll meet with our Serge team.

What will you, personally, be doing?

I'm not sure of anything specifically yet

I will be playing with the children at Manna Rescue Home and maybe helping my mom teach. She will also be leading a bible study group with the girls.

How often will you come back to visit?

Not very frequently

A round trip from Uganda to the U.S. is very expensive, especially for six people. I will miss America and all our friends, but visiting often is not realistic. Serge would like us to stay our first year without any trips home because they've found that works better for missionary families. Our plan is to stay in Uganda for two years, then come back to America for six months. After that, we will most likely return to Uganda for another two years.

When are you leaving?

December 6th, 2016

How long are you staying?

It could vary

We want to stay for  at least two or three years, but we may decide to stay longer once we get there. Staying for less than two years isn't worth the move because we'll be selling most of our stuff. Serge is training us for five years, which is considered 'long term', but nothing is certain.

What is your house like?

Definitely different, but not too rough

We really love our house. It has four bedrooms and four baths (it used to be a guest house, which is why there are so many bathrooms). There is hot water!! We have a wall around the yard. The kitchen has a large pantry and a medium sized fridge. We are going to pay for internet and some lights, but I doubt they'll be used as frequently as they are in America. It's made of cement and has a nice yard.

How is security?

We have big dogs and a gate to the house

The woman who owns the house we're renting has two large German Shepherds and has left them for us. We let the dogs out at night for security and they stay in a cage at night. The woman also hires a local Ugandan man to act as a gate guard. The house has never been broken into as long as the dogs have been there. We feel like this house is a really safe place.
